Life Sucks

Firstly Livejournal has been re-blocked by Eti-screwyou-salat.

And then friend and I decided to pull the plug on the weekend break to Germany after monitoring the wild weather and the level of service disruption likely, 4 hours before I was supposed to leave for the airport.

And of course things LOOK better in Germany this morning. No flight cancellations, some train services getting restored and I'm sitting here looking at my luggage parked at the door.

Worst of all, I misjudged my YanYan biscuit-to-chocolate dipping estimation. So now I'm left with 3 sticks and no chocolate. Better than the other way round I guess.

...and hello again.

There has been a glitch in the UAE's internet connections (what's new?). This involved the filters that block 'undesirable sites' such as Livejournal. The glitch, lasting the past week, meant that users in the UAE could not connect to many mainstream sites, such as google, but could access the previously-blocked sites.

Therefore, I THOUGHT that the unblocking of LJ was a permanent one. But things have reverted to the status quo.

Hello and Goodbye

Just like Prince Charles, the love affair with the beautiful young Diana is short-lived and I've gone back to my ever-faithful Livejournal. I mean Camilla.

Decisions Decisions

Need your help to decide the following:

a) Blogger or Multiply?

b) ipod or new phone (incorporating mp3 player and fairly decent camera)?

c) Muscat or Musandam?

Dubai Marathon

You will remember that I declared some time last year that I would run in the 2007 Dubai Marathon? Well, I FULLY INTENDED TO. But by some stupid rule, the organisers required participants to be physically present at registration in early January. But of course, I was in Singapore. And therefore, i COULDN'T register and hence I COULDN'T take part. So sad right?

So in the spirit of cameraderie, I brought my camera (haha) out and cheered the participants on. From the comfort of my car...

I watched what had to be the world's worst Flamenco dancers yesterday. I wasn't expecting much. I mean, after all, if you were good, you would be performing to sold-out audiences in Madrid and not having to be flown to the middle of the desert to perform for free in the atrium of a shopping mall.

Now, I don't know if elephants suffer from epilepsy but after watching the first dancer 'strut her stuff', I roughly think I know what that would look like. The second one wasn't much better, leaping around like an electrocuted chimpanzee with ants up one leg.

Harsh? Perhaps.

But the way I look at things is...if you are performing in public, even if it is for free, you had better be damn good. Because there will, undoubtedly, be some unforgiving twat watching who will rip you to shreds on his blog...

Resolution Revolution

My New Year's resolution for 2006 was to be more selfish. And I think I managed to accomplish that quite well.

So for 2007, I'll try something a little less negative. I will try to read more and try to travel more. That's quite a neutral resolution - doesn't really require much effort.

So this picture* sums it up - Reading while on holiday in Iceland.

A new year. A new start. A new blog.

2006 was an eventful year. I lost some, I found some. I moved some. I moved house. I moved around the world a bit. Singapore (6 times), England, Iceland, China, Oman and India. And I ended the year with a spectacular session of diarrhoea and vomitting. And with my system completely purged of 2006, I was all ready to welcome 2007.

Well, I've started off the new year with new spectacles (all the better to see things differently this year) and a new belt (all the better to keep the trousers up following the food poisoning episode). And not by choice, I've got a new blog.

Welcome.
